THE REQUEST
I hope this message finds you well. I am reaching out with an urgent request that is crucial for the future of our industry and the professional development of our peers.
Recently, we encountered a situation where an individual seeking ECSA registration faced challenges during the interview process. This highlights a pressing need for assessors who are well-versed in our field and can assess on a technical level the experience of the applicants.
To address this, we are seeking to identify and train a group of dedicated professionals from our industry to serve as assessors for ECSA applicants. This is a vital step to ensure that candidates are evaluated by individuals who truly understand the nuances of our work.
We need your help to achieve the following:
- Nine (9) Professional Engineering Technicians
- Nine (9) Professional Engineering Technologists
- Nine (9) Professional Engineers
- Nine (9) MOM/MES Practitioners with the MESA MES/MOM Certificate of Competency
These individuals will be trained by ECSA to conduct interviews and assessments for those applying for professional registration. It is imperative that we gather a sufficient number of volunteers to make this training feasible and effective.
Please send me the following information:
- Your Full Name
- ID Number
- SAIMC Number
- Category
- Technician (National Diploma)
- Technologist (B.Tech)
- Engineer (B. Eng.)
- MOM Practitioner (Your Qualification, even if not technical)
Training will be coordinated with ECSA once we have enough participants. Your involvement is not only a chance to give back but also to ensure the integrity and understanding of our industry in the professional registration process.
ALREADY AN ASSESSOR
If you are already a trained assessor, please send me your details by the end of May 2025:
- Your Name
- Your Professional Status (Technician, Technologist, Engineer, MOM Practitioner)
- Your ECSA Registration Number
Thank you for considering this important role. I look forward to your prompt response.
Yours in Automation,
Johan Maartens, Pr. Eng.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Successful candidates will be requested to attend a training session on how to assess the applicants. Currently it is unknown whether the training will be available offline.
I recommendthat you set out the best part of a day for the training.
After completion of the training, individuals might be requested to assess three applicants. In the first round, the material is emailed to three assessors and they have a week to complete the assessments.
The second round is an on-line or face-to-face meeting of three assessors with the candidates. Here assessors also need to set out the best part of a day to go through the scheduled candidates.
Assessors are paid a stipend for this service (per session).
Should an assessor not be available, they must notify ECSA immediately when requested to participate in an assessment and another assessor will be chosen.
In the first round the assessment of a single applicant can take between one to two hours depending on the completeness of the application, hence our drive to assist applicants in our industry to complete the document properly.
